GAO: Agency unlikely to meet ship disposal deadline

Article Abstract:

A new Government Accountability Office (GAO) report stated that the federal Maritime Administration (MARAD) is not meeting its congressionally mandated deadline to dispose of more than 100 old ships. MARAD's slow progress is due to the lack of an integrated strategy with goals, milestones, performance measures and a mitigation plan for overcoming anticipated impediments.

New standard should speed adoption of facial recognition

Article Abstract:

The Department of homeland security (DHS) announced the adoption of its first standard related to facial recognition biometrics that should speed adoption of emerging technologies. Manufacturers would use the standards as technical criteria as they design cameras and software for automated facial recognition of potential terrorists.

McCain alleges insider dealing in further Pentagon scandal

Sen. John McCain alleged impropriety in military procurement beyond the shadow cast by the conflict of Pentagon scandal of former Air Force procurement official, Darleen Druyun. He criticized the way the White House released the e-mails, which SASC members requested in the wake of Druyun's admission.
