Article Abstract:

Sandi and Steve Sterling, operators of the Santa Barbara, CA-based Fromex One Hour Photo System franchise are apt examples of small business owners who succeed despite the odds because of sheer patience, persistence, hard work, and a willingness to take risks. The couple had no experience in running the busines and knew nothing about the industry. Furthermore, they took a gamble in adopting Advanced Photo System digital image processing. As a result, their store, which is no longer part of a franchise, is flourishing in a new location with a well trained, loyal staff.

Nurturing your niche

Article Abstract:

Photofinishing services companies must be aware of the qualities which differentiate their firms from the competition and communicate these to consumers. Companies which are aware of their uniqueness will be able to define their niches and nurture it. This is the essence of niche marketing, where the primary objective is to bring together one's premium clients and identify why they come to the company and for what. Market niche is something that must be defined and then constantly monitored and adapted.

Photographic laboratories and services ought to begin exploiting the opportunities to be found in the lucrative area of digital imaging technology. Digital imaging enables photofinishing firms to produce a wide variety of products. While photographic services will continue to generate substantial revenues from conventional film processing, there are long- term advantages to immediately adopting digital imaging technology, which is becoming increasingly affordable.
