General Dynamics, Lockheed warned to keep LCS costs down

Article Abstract:

The US Navy has cautioned the two companies selected to build the first four vessels in the new class of Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) ship, General Dynamics Corp. and Lockheed Martin Corp., to keep the costs within the agreed budget with a view to keeping the ship an affordable vessel. The US Navy has also indicated that the contract for future ships would not necessarily be awarded to these two companies, leaving the door open to competitors Raytheon Co., Northrop Grumman Corp. and others.

Lawmakers urge Rumsfeld to back expeditionary fighting vehicle

Article Abstract:

A bipartisan group of the House has urged the US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to support the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) for the Marine Corps. The General Dynamics Corporation vehicle is on the verge of production and delivery to operational forces and it can be launched from ships located 10 times farther from shore than the Assault Amphibious Vehicle that it is to replace.
