Glenchewton: tasty fare

Glenchewton is a UK company that operates pubs and distributes kitchen products. The company's pre-tax profit was 104,000 pounds sterling for 1st half 1995, and a stronger performance could be achieved for 2nd half 1995. The company acquired Country Style Inns (CSI) which owns 16 pubs, in Oct 1995. Food represents over 50% of CSI's sales, and CSI reported an operating profit of 237,000 pounds for the 12 months to Feb 1995 compared with 79,000 for the previous year. Glenchewton could achieve a profit of 800,000 pounds sterling for full-year 1995.

Surrey Free rolls out the superpub

Surrey Free Inns is a UK pub operator which reported a rise in profit of 46% for the 12 months to May 1996. The company uses the Litten Tree brand for its very large pubs which offer a range of entertainment. The company has seven Litten Tree outlets and plans to open a further three prior to Christmas 1996. The company aims to carry out a small share placing involving some 500,000 new shares. This would raise over 1.5 million pounds sterling.
