Golden rails

Article Abstract:

GB Railways has seen a rise in its share price since its flotation in Jan 1997, and this could bring a profit of over 3 million pounds sterling for the company's directors. They could make an additional 2.65 million pounds using a share option scheme if the company is awarded a contract for Thameslink, a line between Brighton and Bedford, England. Shareholdings in train operating companies like GB Railways can rise further after the work force has been reduced and they have invested in new trains.

Railtrack - fair value after all

Article Abstract:

Railtrack was privatized at a time when the Labor party was in opposition, and there was concern about the party's statements on United Kingdom 's transportation policy if it won an election. This political risk affected Railtrack's stock price, and the Labor party claimed that the company was sold too cheaply. Stock prices rose after Railtrack was privatized, but the government did not know in 1996 that this would occur to such an extent.
