Heading for greener pastures?

Article Abstract:

A growing number of Canada's skilled workers are leaving the country for the US, where life is presumably easier due to its more attractive taxation system. Significant tax disparities between the two countries have caused Canada to encounter difficulties in recruiting and retaining the best in the fields of science and management, which could affect the country's business climate in the long-term. Unless Canada lowers its taxes for its middle and upper income workers, its brain drain problem may well worsen.

Should there be a speculation tax?

Article Abstract:

Investment speculators are invariably blamed for the monetary crises battering the world economy. This has led to calls for the creation of a monetary union in the Americas, akin to the euro currency, and the taxation of the activities of foreign exchange traders. Imposing a tax on speculation raises a number of problems, not the least of which is the impediment of the free flow of capital and the delineation of what constitutes a speculation, genuine investment or hedging decision.
