Home rooms installation

Article Abstract:

The Home Rooms Installation of the University of Massachusetts Fine Arts Center at Amherst, MA, won a gold award in the environment category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. A parachute molded in the shape of clouds forms the ceiling. Designer pots are strategically placed, and a home atmosphere is achieved by propping snow shoes in one corner and using a collection of plates as a frieze. The playful, unconventional use of ordinary materials makes the room hover just above the level of kitsch, just enough to be a conscious parody of itself.

Offices for Reach Networks

Article Abstract:

The Reach Networks Inc offices in New York, NY, received a gold award in the environments category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The simple row of office cubicles was given a novel twist by arranging it diagonally across the floor space. The walls have and unusual, raised chipboard base and irregularly punched rectangular windows. A raised computer floor in the middle of the office space gives unity to the whole concept.
