Human embryonic stem cell derivation from poor-quality embryos

Article Abstract:

The statistical correlation between the developmental phase of poor-quality embryos considered as useless on basis of poor morphology and a low chance of generating useful pregnancies or surviving the cryopreservation process, during in vitro fertilization and the yield of human embryonic stem (hES) cell lines is presented. It is suggested that the early- arrested or highly fragmented embryos rarely produce cell lines while the embryos who have achieved the blastocyst stage are a great source of normal hES cells.

Customized human embryonic stem cells

Article Abstract:

Korean scientists have used somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) to generate patient-specific human embryonic stem (hES) lines and is considered to be a spectacular step forward in transplantation medicine and stem cell biology. These customized hES cell lines represent invaluable tools for disease research and a potential source of immune-matched autologous cells for regenerative cell therapies.
