Hunting for hidden treasure

Article Abstract:

Old share certificates may appear worthless, but there are a number of ways to assess whether they have any value. Companies may have taken on new names, or been acquired by other companies. Stockbrokers may provide information on such companies. Companies House can provide records for the 20 years to 1997 and give free access to computerized records or charge 3.5 pounds sterling for a computer print-out. There are also paper-based archives for companies from 1856, though not all are included.
