The accumulating sectors include Banks-Central, Banks-South, Banks-Savings/Savings and Loans, Drugs/Drug Stores, and Furniture and Home Furnishings. The neutral sectors include Textiles/Textile Products, Instruments/Photographic Equipment, and Shipping and Marine Services. The disposing sectors include Coal, Entertainment/Motion Pictures and Shipping and Marine Services.

A table of insider trading activity in the New York Stock Exchange, the NASDAQ and the American Stock Exchange is presented. Stocks listed include Alliant Techsystems Inc., Arvin Industries Inc., Bankers Trust N.Y. Corp., Coleman Inc., Advanced Mammography Systems, Alabama National Bancorp., Alaska Apollo Resources, Acadiana Bancshares Inc., Cancer Treatment Holdings Inc., Ivax Corp. and PMC Capital Inc.

1996 ... a big year in more than one way

Article Abstract:

The volume of insider trading in securities in 1996 reached a level that far exceeded all previous records. A total of $22.9 billion in insider transactions were made during the year. In contrast, insider trading volumes from 1991 to 1994 hovered at just under $12 billion. In 1995, insider transactions jumped sharply up to $16.1 billion, which still pales in comparison the sector's performance in 1996.
