East Midlands Electricity reported a stable pre-tax profit for 1995 to 1996, excluding a special dividend relating to the National Grid and a customer rebate. The company has achieved cost savings which have helped to offset the impact of the price regime for 1995 to 1996. The price review of the electricity regulator will reduce profits by 30 million pounds sterling for 1996 to 1997. The company is likely to be strong enough to withstand the impact of a Labor Party government.
