IPs to the rescue!

Article Abstract:

The collapse of many Asian tiger economies has opened up enormous opportunities for insolvency practitioners. International insolvency has been moving toward two interrelated directions: the adoption of non-statutory frameworks for the restructuring and rescue of financially troubled companies, and the recognition of the need for a Model Law that affirms the role of insolvency practitioners in cross-border assignments. The first trend is particularly evident in Asia, where both Thailand and Indonesia have adopted the London Approach to bankruptcy reorganizations. Despite government efforts to rescue insolvent companies, there is still great demand for expertise in insolvency management since Asian countries have no corporate reorganization culture and will need help in creating a restructuring environment.

International rescue

Article Abstract:

There is an increasing move towards internationalization in the field of accounting. The trend was demonstrated with the transformation of Kidsons Impey into HLB Kidsons on May 1 1999, a move that seeks to highlight the company's international capabilities through its membership in HLB International. The move towards showing an accounting firm's international reach, which for HLB means a presence in over 90 nations, is a result of the increasing trend towards globalization by most of the world's major companies. Being a member of an international network can be an important asset in providing local customers with the same quality accounting service overseas through referrals with sister organizations, an advantage that works both ways.
