Invasion of the superbugs: Bacteria than can resist several drugs are increasingly common, and post a major threat to heath, argues general practitioner

Article Abstract:

Most strains of the pneumococcal bacterium were sensitive to penicillin until 10 years ago, but there are pneumococci in some parts of the US that are 100% resistant to it and other antibiotics. The rapid spread of genes for antibiotic resistance means that multiple antibiotic resistance can develop, and it is important to develop new class of antibiotics. There is also an urgent need to reduce the rate of resistance to drugs currently available, by reducing the number of prescriptions for trivial infections and cutting the use of antibiotics in farming.

Data manipulation in a secure environment

Article Abstract:

The proliferation of personal computers (PC) has made computer security extremely important. Controlling access to PCs is a vital first step, making sure that they are placed in an open environment where unauthorized users could be easily identified, and using locks. Passwords should be used to limit access to elements within the system, especially for payment authorizations, check printing, and information in data bases.
