Madeira aims to encourage the development of scienceand technology through the setting up of Technopolo, founded in 1993. This is a science parkwhich is 2km from Funchal, the capital of Madeira. Madeira aims to compete in world marketsthrough investment in adding to low costs and low wages. The Portuguese Institute ofAstronomy is based in Madeira and research will be carried out in this area at Technopolo.Research on wind power will also be carried out at the science park.

Electron-beam resist technology for GaAs microwave device fabrication

Article Abstract:

A wide range of monolithic microwave integrated circuits incorporating high-grain, low-noise high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) devices are used in applications such as satellite communications. HEMTs need to have a mushroom cross-section to allow a short gate length and a low gate stripe resistance. Details of a tri-layer electron resist process are presented.
