Investing in the future: what can CAs do about the stress in their careers?

Article Abstract:

Chartered accountants (CAs) are one of the finance professionals who are subjected to stressful working condition. Stress, which predisposes CAs to life threatening health conditions such as heart attack, results since the nature of CA's job is mentally and physically debilitating. Despite the establishment of help programs in several organizations to address such problem, stress continue to be experienced by CAs mainly because of the CA training process and work culture that is pervasive in accounting firms.

Liability and the "expectation gap."(gap between the auditing services and public expectation)

Article Abstract:

Accountants must address the expectations of the public pertaining to accounting services. it is due to increased corporate failures, which resulted to legal cases against auditors in US, UK, Canada and Australia, influenced the trust of the public on auditors. The gap will not worsen if issues such as technological advancement, education and qualification and business ethics are properly dealt with. If these issues are addressed, the formulation of an international financial language may be possible.

Fourth year of university for future CAs in Quebec

Article Abstract:

Quebec's Ordre des comptables agrees du Quebec has decided to require accounting students to undertake fourth year university education prior to applying for the Uniform Final Examination. Although the new requirement will not be compulsory until Sep. 1998, many Quebec university's will begin offering the new curriculum as early as Sep. 1997. A discussion of the key elements that will be emphasized in the new four-year curriculum is presented.
