Investment trusts may involve more risks for investors than unit trusts, according to Premier Fund Management, since their overseas exposure and gearing mean that they are more volatile. This also means that performance can be enhanced, and the FTSE investment companies index has risen by 37%, above the 13% for the FTSE All Share, amd 8% for the FTSE 100 index over a year. Matrix Money Management is launching a tracker fund linked to the FTSE All-Share Investment Companies Index. The five-year performance is not as good as that of the one-year performance in relation to the FTSE 100 index.
