UK banks are reviewing monitoring methods of derivatives trading after the problems this caused for Barings. Salomon Brothers has also reported losses from derivatives trading. Derivatives players include the majority of large firms' treasury departments, as well as banks. The major UK banks argue that they are less exposed than many Swiss and US banks, measured in relation to their capital base. There is still concern that problems could arises from derivatives trading.
