It's time to make up your mind

Article Abstract:

Issues affecting investors in a bid for Forte by Granada include assessing the value of Granada's offer and the counter-offer from Forte. There is also the risk factor. The Forte that would emerge from the counter-offer would be more exposed to risk by being more purely focused in one sector, the hotel industry. Forte's management record had not been good, but there are doubts as to how much better Granada's might be even if it appears better on the surface. Shareholders could sell their shares in the market rather than accepting Granada's offer.

The great Forte raid

Article Abstract:

Granada has made a bid to acquire Forte for 3.3 billion pounds sterling and is seeking backing from from fund managers for the bid. Granada has criticised Forte's defense and management strategy and argues that its bid would lead to cost savings. The extent of the savings has been questioned, and some analysts argue that Granada may sell much of Forte's assets, if it succeeds in its bid. Analysts argue that this means that Granada should pay a higher price which it may not be able to afford.

Bid rivals face new menu

Article Abstract:

Granada has carried out a successful acquisition of Forte. This acquisition follows the acquisitions of Sutcliffe for 360 million pounds sterling and London Weekend Television for 650 million pounds. Granada's acquisitions have helped to boost the group's profits. Rocco Forte may seek to acquire the Meridien and Exclusive hotel chains from Granada, which Granada plans to sell. He is unlikely to remain idle and looks set to raise the funds needed to buy back these hotel businesses.
