Jasmin is a UK designer and producer of electronic systems. The company's passenger information systems are used in large London stations. Pre-tax profit rose by 70% in the half year to Sep 1995, while turnover was up by 25% in this period. The company has strengths in the military and railroads markets but long term contracts can be a problem since delays can increase costs. The company argues that its track record in meeting commitments is good and the management is optimistic.

Peek is a UK company which produces electronic monitoring equipment for traffic lights. The company should benefit from an expansion in the market as vehicle ownership expands world wide. Some 67% of the company's profit comes from traffic monitoring systems mostly through large contracts. Maintenance and repair work is likely to become increasingly important. The company also produces measuring devices and aims to increase the size of this division by making acquisitions.

Ericsson: the Italian job

Article Abstract:

Ericsson has been awarded a $200 million contract by Telecom Italia to install a communications network using advanced fiber-optic broadband technology. Ericsson heads the consortium involved in the contract and will carry out some 75% of the work involved. The new network will cover nine Italian cities. Italy is an important market for Ericsson, and the company's Italian subsidiary is the main supplier for the mobile telecommunications network of Telecom Italia.
