Jenkins on the Jenkins Report

Article Abstract:

Edmund L. Jenkins is the chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' Special Committee on Financial Reporting, which had the task of making proposals to improve the usefulness of corporate financial reports. The committee's preliminary report focuses on business reporting, which goes beyond financial reporting because it requires operating data and performance measures which are useful in making forecasts. Jenkins said that the report addressed the needs of investors and creditors, who need to make informed decisions in the capital allocation process. Explanations of other components of the report are also presented.

The spin cycle

Article Abstract:

Canada has been considered one of the best places to launder money, in part because of the unprotected border between the United States and Canada, which makes passing money between the countries easy, and because of the stability of its banking system and willingness of the financial institutions to do business with anyone. This will change with the implementation of Bill C-22, the Proceeds of Crime Act, federal legislation for money laundering that calls for strict reporting. However, criminals are expected to become more violent and intimidating.
