National Power keeps the shocks in check

Article Abstract:

National Power's share price has been affected by concern over regulations and its bid for Southern Electric has been blocked. The company is a major supplier of electricity in the UK, accounting for 32% of UK electricity in 1995, a figure set to drop to 25% by 2000. National Power's fuel costs are set to drop as coal powered stations are used less than gas. The company could be affected by a windfall tax if a Labor government is elected, but National Power shares are still attractive.

National Power

Article Abstract:

National Power is a United Kingdom electricity generator which has been asked to sell more generating capapcity by the government. There is concern that the company is using its power in the wholesale electricity market to make generation from coal-fired power stations appear less attractive. The company is affected by downward pressure on prices to some extent, and has issued a profit warning for 1998 to 1999. The company is expanding overseas though this may not help its stock price.
