Key vision for accounting education

Article Abstract:

The 1996 Annual Conference of the Canadian Academic Accounting Assn. (CAAA) focused on the issue of information management. Among the issues discussed were the production of information for management decision-making; current research on capital markets, management accounting, and accounting and auditing standards; and the accounting profession's new programs on vision, assurance and control. Incoming CAAA Pres. Real Labelle also talked about his plans for the association during his presidency.

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountant's Micro '96 conference focused on technological issues relevant to the accounting profession. One speaker emphasized that the application of technology to continually improve processes can help chartered accountants provide better value to their clients. Other issues discussed were hardware upgrade options, formats for presenting documents, Windows 95 and NT, and legal considerations concerning cyberspace.

Discussing workplace diversity

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) held a meeting and roundtable discussion focusing on workplace diversity in Apr. 1995. CICA Chairperson Carol Loughrey stated during her opening address that the traditional model of CA as a white male with a wife raising children and managing the home is no longer acceptable. She says a new model that reflects the realities of the diverse workforce should be adopted.
