Lack of interest leads to a shrinking packaging sector

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom packaging industry has not been popular with investors in stocks for some years, and a number of companies have disappeared. Plysu will be acquired by Nampak, Sidlaw has been acquired by Danisco, and Field by Chesapeake. Clondalkin is to be acquired by Edgemead, and Waddington looks set to attract a bidding war. There are 20 quoted companies remaining in the sector in the UK, with three involved in takeover bids, and the sector could disappear.

One bidder tunes in

Article Abstract:

Digital One is the only bidder to run a national commercial digital multiplex in the United Kingdom. The license lasts 12 years and can be renewed for an additional 12 years. The developmentof digital radio could be hampered by the high cost of radio receivers which is only likely to drop once demand increases - but demand may not increase sufficiently due to the high cost of receivers. Digital One is aiming for 40% penetration in the UK by 2009.
