Coherent Inc's Laser Link slit lamp adapter received a gold award in the equipment category of the 1992 Annual Design Review. The Laser Link slit lamp adapter is a laser delivery device that was designed to be used with the diagnostic slit lamp. It was praised particularly for enabling patients to receive sophisticated therapy in a doctor's office instead of being confined in a hospital. The design was the result of collaboration among Lunar Design of Palo Alto, CA, and Coherent Inc's in-house designers Max Yoshimoto, Bill Evans, Gerard Furbershaw, Gil Wong, Paul Hammerton-Kelly and Braxton Lathrop.

Coherent Inc's Ultima 2000 Argon Laser System won a gold award in the equipment category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The Ultima 2000 is a compact argon laser for retinal surgery. Its compact portable design permits time sharing of the device by doctors. It was praised for resolving the issue of portability of a sophisticated medical device in a manner that was both elegant and rugged. The design was the work of Lunar Design in Palo Alto, CA, in cooperation with Coherent Inc in-house designers Peter Keenan, Dave Youngquist, Martha Trupiano and Jeff Saito.

Article Abstract:

The Theo pendant light designed by Maxine Naylor for Manifesto of Seattle, WA, won a gold award in the furniture category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The pendant lamp is an arrangement of anodized aluminum plates, a steel chassis and die-stamped Nomex/Mylar composite diffuser. The angled shapes and the interplay between reflective and translucent suggest a jewel-like effect that would fit beautifully in many interiors.
