Research suggests a very clear link between leadership development and the financial success of a company. Experts believe that great leaders tend to have at least one of seven characteristics, namely, a genuine passion for improvement, congruence, flexibility in leadership style, an ability to provide clarity and purpose, people skills, a willingness to listen and learn, and the X factor, the qualities that make a great leader.

The UK Department of Trade and Industry has drafted Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006, which imposes a default retirement age of 65 and gives employees the right to request continued employment after that age.
