Learning the hard way: a tale of two installations

Article Abstract:

The experiences of Johnson's Fresh Products Ltd and Giorgio Beverly Hills illustrate how problematic erroneous accounting software purchasing decisions can be to first-time buyers. Johnson's Fresh Products acquired its first accounting system in 1989 and found to its dismay that the Multisoft Standard system it purchased was extremely unreliable. The system often crashed and it eventually wrought havoc on the firm's financial accounts. After a troubled two-year effort to make the system work, the firm finally opted to replace it with a Multisoft Premier system, a move that helped solve the firm's severe accounting problems. In like fashion, Giorgio Beverly Hills' first purchase of a system proved to be highly unsatisfactory. The firm discovered that the system it acquired was not compatible with its operations. Its decision to shift to a Scala accounting system eventually resolved the problem.

Flexibility and the financial ledger

Article Abstract:

Omicron's (Walton-on-Thames, UK) Unix-based XIS accounting computer software is a superior accounting package that offers advanced multi-currency processing in the general, sales, and purchase ledgers. The strongest feature of XIS is its general ledger, the predefined screens of which can be custom tailored and allow the accessing of 170 fields for any screen. XIS is the most powerful UNIX software package for financial ledgers and can be tailored to meet the requirements of the end-users.
