Legal regulation of space activities in Russia

Article Abstract:

The former USSR did not have specific space laws, despite regulation of space activities by numerous decisions and restrictions. The situtation has changed since the disintegration of the USSR, and the Commonwealth of Independent States have established the Russian Space Agency in 1992, to regulate legal and organizational activities involved in the exploration and use of space. The RSA will also form the basis for further and more specific space legislation in the CIS.

Organizing large space activities: why the private sector model usually wins

Article Abstract:

Endeavours in space used to be the exclusive domain of governments. However, the current trend indicates a shift from the traditional government space agency model towards the private sector. Although some space efforts, such as manned missions or a landing on Mars, can never be undertaken by private entities at present due to their immense cost, an increasing number of applications are coming under the technical and financial capabilities of the private sector.
