Long- and short-run non-parametric cost frontier efficiency: an application to Spanish savings banks

Article Abstract:

This paper presents a mathematical model for estimating the inefficiency related to existing capacity (the short-run inefficiency caused by a non-optimal dimension of the fixed inputs) and the restrictions to adjust the levels of fixed inputs. The model is then applied to Spanish savings banks covering 1986 to 1995 to test the model.
