Lonrho split to hand reins to South Africans

Article Abstract:

Dieter Bock, chief executive of Lonrho, plans to divide the company into three by the end of 1996. This plan includes the flotation of the group's hotel interests and then a separate float of non-mining interests related to African trading. Lonrho will continue to focus on mining. Anglo American looks set up have an important degree of control of the group's mining assets through an option agreed with Bock whereby Anglo can buy the 18% stake held by Bock. Anglo already holds a 7.3% stake in Lonrho.

Attacks cloud airlines' future

Article Abstract:

The already weak airline sector has been badly hit by the recent terrorist attacks on the US, with passenger numbers falling and losses rising. Airlines must now concentrate on crisis management, and if government regulation is eased, some airlines could even become stronger.
