The purchase prompted the stock to appreciate by 12.5% and settled at 45 1/4 for the trading week ended Nov 13, 1992. MBNA posted a 15.9% rise in profits for the Sep 1992 quarter while total managed loans increased to a record-setting $9.2 billion. A $1.76 dividend is given on the 49.5 million shares.

CoreStates did not confirm the bid, but was reported to have declined the offer. PNC pays a dividend of $2.12 for 107 million shares of stock due to a strong 1st qtr in 1992, while CoreStates' stock traded from 2 3/8 to 51 5/8 through the week of May 15, 1992.
