Six out of ten Czechs are shareholders

Article Abstract:

The private sector accounted for some 70% of the gross domestic product of the Czech Republic in 1995, while the state owned 98% of economic activities in 1989. Privatization has been carried out using vouchers and has created many small shareholders accounting for 65% of the Czech Republic's 10 million inhabitants. Further privatizations are planned, though the pace is slowing. Some companies will be retined by the state, including the railroads and a uranium mine.
