Europalite, based in Mansfield, is a plastic rotational moulding company designing and manufacturing plastic products for road safety and traffic management. The company's turnover has risen to 3 million pounds sterling from its foundation in 1971, and obtained funding through private equity. It used a combination of organic growth and acquistiion to expand, with the extension of its factory and the purchase of other companies.

Demand for development capital: the number of development deals is on the rise, particularly for funding acquisitions. But demand for packages to finance organic growth remains disappointing

Article Abstract:

Expansion capital financings rose to 480 million pounds sterling in 1994, from 39 million pounds sterling in 1993 according to figures from the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA). Expansion through acquisition is continuing and development capital is still dwarfed by buy-out business. The industry is having to cope with the arrival of the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) which might boost business.

Coming out of the blue: the management of IBM's Havant manufacturing site has successfully completed a buy-out. Where does the business aim to go now?

Article Abstract:

The management buy-out of IBM's manufacturing complex at Havant, Hampshire was successfully completed. The business was the main supplier of disk drives to the company's personal computer manufacturing plant and it was decided that manufacturing could be undertaken outside the company. The new company Xyratex aims to to change the business' direction and attract other custome besides IBM.
