Maritime rules in unclear water: Experts

Article Abstract:

Two legal experts on maritime issues stated that, United States maritime and port security raised the need to sort out the way in which U.S rules and regulations interact with others coming from outside of the Unites States. The Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) passed a mandate that all transportation industry workers be issued a transportation worker identification card, a form of biometric identification.

The Department of Defense (DOD) has experienced benefits as the security process has become more efficient and probably more cost-effective and also the help desk calls related to authentication of users' identities have reduced since the deployment of fingerprint-based security products from DigitalPersona, Inc.

Trains on track for explosives screening

Article Abstract:

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would begin the third phase of a pilot program for screening train passengers for explosives from the third week of July 2004. The program attempts to conduct explosives screening while a train is moving.
