Market globalization and financial market stability: Italy's viewpoint. Roundtable debate

Article Abstract:

There is a consensus among Italian economists that market globalization is a progressive integration of markets and a redistribution of production. Globalization is affected by many factors such as monetary polices, labor economics and production variables that interact with each other that Italy could consider in planning and implementation of strategies. Political and economic spheres are also closely integrated in globalization and planners should also consider these in their strategies.

Global finance, efficiency and instability

Article Abstract:

Europe should move towards a convergent regional economy as this has several benefits to member countries and their trade partners. Convergence however, should not be entrusted to monetary policy alone as there are other factors to consider including business practices, labor productivity, taxation and other nominal variables. Efforts should therefore be made in keeping monetary stability and overall economic soundness as these play an important systemic role.

Surveillance, international banking standards and the role of the International Monetary Fund

Article Abstract:

The International Monetary Fund's role in monitoring financial institutions and economies remains legitimate as it reduces the risk and effects of financial crises. Financial crises will occur and the fund will always be there to help stabilize economies, promote economic reforms and ensure the implementation of adjustment programs. The fund operates with a mandate and the mandate governs the funds actions on member countries.
