Article Abstract:

Merseyside, England, is undergoing regeneration in areas such as real estate development and business investment. Ford is investing in the area, as is Sonae, a Portuguese firm which is setting up a chipboard packaging plant in Merseyside. The Merseyside Dock and Harbour Company is performing well, and cargo routes between Ireland and Liverpool are growing. An enquiry will be held into plans for a tram system. There is also investment in bars, hotels and restaurants in Merseyside.

Myths and mellow fruitfulness

Article Abstract:

Merseyside, England, has been portrayed as strike-prone, yet there is little industrial unrest, and the work force is more productive than the average for the United Kingdom. The political character of Merseyside has aso changed though there are still perceptions of dominance by the Militant group. The city has a motivated work force and skills from the construction industry boom of the 1960s. Crime levels are also not as high as they are sometimes portrayed.
