Measuring intra-operative interference from distraction and interruption observed in the operating theatre

Article Abstract:

An observational tool is developed to record distraction and interruption in the operating theatre during surgery, with some interferences being intrinsic to the work and some, extraneous. The findings show that measuring intra-operative interference is feasible and highlight the need to further develop measures of interference assess its variation, intensity and its effect on surgical team performance.
