Medical editors work to counter PR "spin"

Article Abstract:

The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors had declared that they will not publish results of clinical trails unless the drug is registered in a public database, taking note of criticism that the companies were highlighting positive trials while inconclusive or negative tests were undisclosed. The medical journals will publish results of a study only if the study is registered at the start in a database accessible to the public that is electronically searchable and is managed by a not for profit organization. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) has launched a voluntary database that contains the results of controlled clinical trials since Oct 2002 for their member company drug products approved in the United States.

Missing travel writer puts focus on risks in 'fam trips'

Article Abstract:

The disappearance of publication Frommer's Travel Guides writer Claudia Kirschhoch in Jamaica has been covered closely by the international media and has refocused the public eye on the dangers of tourist travel. It has also presented Sandals Resorts International, the firm which arranged Kirschhoch's trip, with a public relations nightmare. The incident is yet another example of how crime in a country can make or break its tourist industry.
