Midland Independent

Article Abstract:

Midland Independent is a UK newspaper publisher which has been affected by price competition among national dailies in the UK. The company's advertising income increased by 17% in 1994, and there was also a 60% rise in income from direct marketing in that year. The company is also involved in a cable TV JV together with Mirror Group Television which should bring in a profit for 1997. The company will be affected by a rise in newsprint costs in 1995 and could still be affected by price competition between national newspapers in the UK.

Newsprint shock horror

Article Abstract:

Daily Mail and General Trust may benefit from a relaxing of the newspaper price war in the UK, but market conditions are still difficult. The company's profit for 1994 was increased by the sale of a stake in Euromoney. Advertising revenue has increased in 1st half 1995, but may not continue to do so at such a strong rate. The company's results are likely to be affected by a rise in the cost of newsprint, and the acquisition of the Nottingham Evening Post will add to paper costs.
