The company reported a rise in operating profit of 6% to 5.1 million pounds sterling for 2nd half 1995. Southern Newspapers' pre-tax profit is forecast at 18 million pounds sterling for the year to Jun 1996 by Beeson Gregory. The company is moving to a new center in Southhampton, England, and should have gains from a real estate disposal.

The company's results are likely to be affected by a rise in the cost of newsprint, and the acquisition of the Nottingham Evening Post will add to paper costs.
