Mind the ceiling, Dorrell tells media emperors: under new rules on media ownership, the small guys can get bigger but some of the big guys will be forced to get smaller. It's sure to set off a year of arguing over media power

Article Abstract:

Television, newspaper and radio companies are planning new media empires but they will have to determine where they stand under the new rules on media ownership. The government is planning to limit owners to 10% of the overall market, although some restrictions will be lifted, including allowing newspaper groups with less than 20% of circulation to control up to two TV stations. The media market will be defined using a points systems, although it may be complicated when applied to a single communications sector.

IRG management trio tuned into future

Article Abstract:

Independent Radio Group has carried out a share issue to fund the acquisition of radio stations and seek new licenses. The company benefits from a high quality management and is seeking radio stations which are underperforming in terms of numbers of listeners. Some 30 radio stations in the UK meet this criterion. The management holds a stake of 0.5% in the company which could be increased to 10% if share options are used. The company's shares are recommended for investors in Oct 1995.

Overpowerful, overpaid and over here: not so long ago management consultants were confined to the US. Today they're big in the UK, but what exactly is it they do, and do they give value for money

Article Abstract:

Management consultancy has gained a respectability in the UK, from relative obscurity in 1980, when annual revenues were less than 100 million pounds sterling. In the US management consultants have been offering advice for years. High profile appointments have helped to ligitimise management consultancy and the Managment Consultancies Association (MCA) has 32 members, mostly the largest practices in the UK which had annual revenues of 1 billion pounds sterling in 1994.
