Modeling cellular machinery through biological network comparison

Article Abstract:

The field of comparative biological network analysis is surveyed and its applications are described to elucidate cellular machinery and to predict protein function and interaction. Network comparison techniques promise to take a leading role in bioinformatics research by providing the means to contrast and query complex biological system but the possibility to integrate networks across a wide variety of biological origins appears distinct to the field of network comparison.

Systematic interpretation of genetic interactions using protein networks

Article Abstract:

A study demonstrates the possibility of uncovering the physical mechanisms behind many of the observed genetic effects by combing the genetic interaction data with information on protein-protein, prote in-DNA or metabolic networks. The results provide a road map for how genetic and physical interactions can be integrated to reveal pathway organization and function.

Exploiting biological complexity for strain improvement through systems biology

Article Abstract:

Cellular complexity offers innumerable possibilities for modifying the cellular machinery to achieve a specific purpose. Exploitation of cellular complexity for strain improvement requires the coordinated understanding of multiple cellular processes so it is pursued efficiently in the framework of systems biology.
