Molins

Article Abstract:

Molins produces tobacco machinery and has seen a drop in its stock price of 75% from April 1996. The company has also lost its chief executive, and has reported losses, but Molins is a world leader with a sound balance sheet. The company faced delays in Chinese orders in 1997, but is likely to recover in 1998. The high value of pound sterling has also affected Molins, which depends heavily on exports, but over the long term, Molins has good prospects. The packaging machinery division has increased its operating profit, though the corrugated board machinery business may have to be sold.

The company has focused on profitable activities and shed loss makers, and has had to invest in new capacity to meet demand. Exports have been hampered by the strength of pound sterling, but they have still performed well. The company's profit is forecast at 4.8 million pounds sterling for 1997 to 1998 by Beeson Gregory.
