Muscular rest and gap frequency as EMG measures of physical exposure: the impact of work tasks and individual related factors

Article Abstract:

This article discusses an ergonomic study conducted on 21 female hospital cleaners, 21 female office workers, and 13 male office workers to determine the frequency period of muscular rest. The cleaners had the least amount of muscular rest and the highest risk of neck and shoulder pain.

Electromyographic fatigue in neck/shoulder muscles and endurance in women with repetitive work

Article Abstract:

An isometric endurance test was conducted on 33 women to record electromyography (EMG) with surface electrodes from the trapezius and deltoid muscles, at a 20% muscular load, to ascertain whether neck/shoulder problems aggravated muscular fatigue in static work. Isotonic regression was used to measure fatigue from the EMG data, which recorded the time cycles showing an increase in root mean square (RMS) and a decrease in mean power frequency (MPF). The results showed that muscular fatigue was not due to neck/shoulder problems and static work.

Validity of self-assessed reports of occurrence and duration of occupational tasks

Article Abstract:

A work task diary that focuses on occurrences and durations of task in relation to an observation protocol is developed and evaluated. The diary is useful for calculation of work exposure, by time weighting task exposure data, when the tasks and/or their duration vary between days.
