Museum of Jurassic Technology/David Wilson

Article Abstract:

David Wilson founded the Museum of Jurassic Technology in Los Angeles in the 1980s and is its current director. The museum merges natural history, science and technology into provocative exhibitions. The museum has received significant media attention, despite its humble scale and slightly handmade appearance. An exhibition of letters, written to the Mount Wilson Observatory between 1915 and 1935, reflects people's awe and fear that resulted from the early 20th-century discovery of Pluto. The museum has devoted rooms to the opera singer Madelena Delani and the engineer Wilhelm Sonnabend.

News when you need it

Article Abstract:

Cable News Network (CNN) has released a five-year plan to incorporate the latest technology into its network. CNN will take advantage of smarter, yet cheaper, satellite networks. Video servers will replace videotapes. Digital TV, as well as the use of miniaturized equipment, are also part of the plan. CNN's commitment to change by using the latest advances speaks well of the respect it accords its audience which is increasingly getting sophisticated. Future projects may include the creation of a broadcast graphics database.

Technology in hand

Article Abstract:

A handheld computer that is inexpensive and as practical as paper was the inspiration for 3Com Corp's Palm Pilot. Unlike its predecessors that tried to do everything, the Palm Pilot is a viable alternative to carrying address books and grocery lists. The device does not distract users with fancy features but instead delivers the things expected of it quickly. The next-generation Palm Pilot may offer access to other communications equipment, enhancing all the more its usefulness.
