Blowing the whistle on corporate fraud

Article Abstract:

The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) scandal has considerably lessened investor confidence in the entire banking system. The BCCI affair has presented the international banking community with complex ethical and regulatory issues. Many see the need for some kind of a regulatory framework that would keep banks honest. Public companies should have determined, autonomous in-house regulators to police the activities of erring executives. The London Stock Exchange could even require listed companies to appoint such whistle-blowers to ensure fiscal probity.

Getting a non-political grip on inflation

Article Abstract:

The UK may be able to control inflation by creating an independent central bank in England. The economic decline in the UK is partly the result of the high average rate of inflation that the UK has relative to other countries, and a central bank may be able to control important economic parameters. In theory, an independent central bank could help control inflation, but in practice, UK politicians have a desire for power. As a result, a central bank will probably not become a reality, and high inflation is likely to continue.
