Natural terrace formation through vegetative barriers on hillside farms in Honduras

Article Abstract:

The impact of grass barriers on soil erosion and natural terrace formation in four small farms in Honduras are studied. Results show that although grass barriers did not totally eliminate erosion, these effectively prevented eroded soil from moving further down the slope compared to a similar slope position without live barriers. Soil accumulation by barriers ranged between 2.6 and 11.2 cm while natural terrace formation ranged from 5.2 to 13.8 cm.
