Article Abstract:

Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich., is being awarded a $7,847,133 cost-sharing contract for professional engineering services for the research and development of advanced electro-active polymeric materials and devices suitable for use in the fabrication of devices of interest to the Department of Defense. Areas of particular interest include electro-active polymers which exhibit muscle-like behavior and are suitable for use as actuators in small robotic devices; electro-active polymers and devices that can be synthesized with micro-structures that can function as analog computation devices in the area of image processing; and electro-active polymers and devices that can interact with electro-magnetic radiation to change electro-magnetic wave material interaction characteristics under active control. The Government will fund 77% of the total contract amount. Work will be performed in Midland, Mich. (80%), and Patuxent River, Md. (10%), and is expected to be completed by May 2002. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured from a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) broad agency announcement and five offers were received. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity (N00421-98-C-1187).

Article Abstract:

Digital System Resources Inc., Fairfax, Va., is being awarded a $15,456,000 not-to-exceed, cost-plus-incentive-fee, letter contract for six TB-16/23 towed array multipurpose processors, and two TB-16/23/29 towed array multipurpose processors to support the acoustic rapid commercial off the shelf insertion program. Work will be performed in Manassas, Va. (90%), and Fairfax, Va. (10%), and is expected to be completed by June 1999. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Arlington, Va., is the contracting activity (N00024-98-C-6204).
