Dedicated follower of investment fashion

Article Abstract:

There has been volatility in Wall Street, and investment fashions mean that the market is prone to excesses. Companies are seeking to develop market share as new business activities develop, with the market itself as the arbiter. Diversification is a way for investors to protect themselves against sharp price falls. Sell-offs in technology stocks can offer buying opportunities. There is some hope that the rest of the stock market may return to normal, with lessening interest in glamor stocks.

Come the fall, summer bull and bear stories may reach a denouement

Article Abstract:

Opinion is divided as to whether the Wall Street bull makret will continue after a pause, or whether stock prices will fall by some 25%. There have been a number of bears forecasting a drop in US stock prices, but prices have continued to rise, helped by low inflation, productivity growth linked to the internet and computers, and funds flowing into the market. United Kingdom stock prices have tended not to perform well in terms of the world average, and there has been a drop in the FTSE 100 index of 14% since Sep 1999.

New York, New York, a helluva town - the bears are up and the Dow is down

Article Abstract:

It is not easy to invest when stock prices are high, and it is difficult to forecast changes in the market. There is a need for caution and research when investing in Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has dropped by 8% since Jul 9 1997. Institutional cash reserves stood at 6.7% at the end of Aug 1999, the highest level for the year, and this could he higher by the end of Sep 1999. US bonds have not been driven down by pressure on the US dollar, and long bonds are steady at bearly 6%.
