Niche business focuses on fusion

Article Abstract:

UCM is a supplier of fused minerals which has good growth potential despite poor results for 1999, which have resulted from a withdrawal from the alumina market. The company has been affected by imports if cheap alumina from China and Russia, so has closed down its operation. UCM is focusing instead on technical ceramics and other rapidly growing businesses. The company is completing a program investing in fused zirconia which should help UCM increased its market share.
