Nine face jail as KPMG signs tax shelter deal with US government

Article Abstract:

Eight former KPMG partners and an independent tax lawyer were indicted at the end of August 2005 for conspiracy to defraud the US government and some of them might be jailed as a result of a deal cut between the US Department of Justice and KPMG. The US government has estimated that KPMG sold around $10 billion worth of shelters and the tax revenue lost was $2.5 billion and the firm has publicly apologized for its sale of the shelters between 1996 and 2002.
