Nominee accounts: time for a change

Article Abstract:

The impact of UK nominee accounts has been studied by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) but no action is likely to be taken before spring 1997. Shareholders are faced with a new electronic trading system, Crest, and are under pressure to use nominee accounts. Some 12 million shareholders are likely to be using these accounts in late 1998. Prices charged by stockbrokers vary considerably but cannot easily be compared since there are variations in how the charges are levied.

Ellis admits to mistakes

Article Abstract:

Ellis and Partners has admitted to mistakes in the flotation of some companies on the United Kingdom Alternative Investment Market (Aim). These companies include Rushmere Wynne, which saw a sharp fall in its stock price after failing to meet profit targets in its prospectus. Ellis has around 20 stocks on Aim, so is an important broker. The company also plans to cease providing financial projections with prospectuses for flotations, a move that has been criticised.
